'He Is Looking Too Rushed': Ex-India Opener Picks SRH Player Who Needs To Change Approach In IPL 2025
Wasim Jaffer believes Nitish Reddy needs to change his approach to improve Sunrisers Hyderabad's chances in IPL 2025. SRH are last, with Reddy struggling at number four.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes all-rounder Nitish Reddy — and not openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma — needs to change his approach to increase Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s chances of success in IPL 2025. Jaffer thinks Reddy is ‘looking too rushed’ so far and needs to take more time to settle.
SRH are placed last in the IPL 2025 points table after losing three of their first four matches in the season. Reddy, who won the Emerging Player of the Year Award last year for his contributions down the order, has been promoted to number four this season. However, he has failed to get a big knock, with his scores reading 30, 32, 0 and 19 so far.

Although Head and Abhishek have also failed to recreate their heroics from last season, Jaffer feels it’s an accepted consequence of their batting style.
“I won’t be telling them (Head and Abhishek) anything," Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo. “I’ll, in fact, tell them to be themselves. That’s what worked for them. They put fear into the opposition bowlers, so you don’t want to tamper with that. They are very dangerous, and you know if they come off, SRH are very dangerous when the openers strike."
“I will probably be telling Nitish Reddy. I think he is looking a little too rushed. He is playing high-risk options, even Abhinav Manohar for that matter. If those openers do not strike, there is an opportunity for the No. 3 and No. 4. Ishan Kishan is pretty new to their system. He has even got a hundred. He has been pretty unlucky as well. In the second game, he got caught down the leg side; in the third game, that slash went straight into the hands of the fielder. Those things happen. But Nitish Reddy can take his time; he is very dangerous when he plays 10, 12, 15 balls," Jaffer added.
SRH will face Gujarat Titans on Sunday in a bid to overturn their campaign. The Titans have had a contrasting start so far, losing their first match but backing that up with two wins.
